Is Jimmy Garoppolo going to be the savior for the San Francisco
49ERS?
Good morning folks,
Latest entry is Jimmy G going to be the savior for the
49ERS. Let us look down memory lane. Since Colin Kaepernick took the 49ERS to
the Super Bowl, back in 2013 there has not been a “franchise” QB in San Fran. Doesn’t
that seem like ages ago?
Here is a list of the QB’s since 2012:
C. J. Beathard (2017)
Blaine Gabbert (2015–2016)
Colin Kaepernick (2012–2016)
Now we have which seems so far like a legitimate franchise
QB in Jimmy Garoppolo. On October 30, 2017, the Patriots traded Garoppolo to
the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for the 49ers' second-round pick in the
2018 NFL Draft.
Here is his stats so far –
SF 3 2 48 72 66.7 645 9.0 2 2 92.7 10 9 0.9 0 4 35 1 0 2-0
Total 20 4 111 166 66.9 1,335 8.0 7 2 100.4 35 19 0.5 0 12 86 3 1 4-0
Since he has started for the 49ERS they have had back to
back wins, yes they’re a 3-10 team at the moment but you can feel it in the
air. There is a e new feeling a somewhat swagger I’ve been hearing and reading
in the news.
“You can feel it in our building,” 49ers coach Kyle
Shanahan said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. “Guys are gaining that
confidence.”
The offence has breathed new life with Garoppolo tossing
for more yards in this first two starts than any quarterback in the 49ERES
storied history. The team has vastly improved in every category, from blockers,
to pass catchers, even the defense is playing, more passion.
Now here is the elephant in the room. Let’s say this guy
exceeds expectations which seems he might what’s going to happen? Another Kirk
Cousins fiasco with this franchise tag nonsense…
Look at this!
Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports
Former NFL agent Joel Corry took a crack at projecting out
the franchise tag numbers for 2018. He increased the salary cap from $167
million to $180 million, which would be consistent with recent cap growth. In
doing so, it would result in a non-exclusive franchise tag value for
quarterbacks of $23,555,000.
Even if the 49ers are ready to make a deal with Garoppolo,
the quarterback will have some factors of his own to consider. If he signs the
franchise tender, the money becomes fully guaranteed. If he does that and then
the 49ers franchise him again next year, he would be due a raise of 120
percent, which would be a single year salary of $28,266,000. That is two years
worth of salary totaling $51,821,000.
That helps to set a bar for what Garoppolo might look for
in terms of guaranteed money. Playing back-to-back franchise tags runs the risk
of injury and a step back in play, but if Garoppolo finishes this year well, it
would make sense for him to try and get $50 million or more fully guaranteed.
It's going to be a VERY interesting 2018.
Take and till next time.

The Rise and Fall of the Kansas City Chiefs?
Greetings,
How is it going? Today I am going to look at the rise and
fall of the 2017 Kansas City chiefs.
I remember the date like it was yesterday, Thursday, September
7, 2017. The first game of the NFL regular season. The Kansas City chiefs vs. The New England
Patriots. I could not wait for the game to start. I rushed home grabbed a beer
and began to watch the shocking events unfold. I have been waiting for the NFL
to start all summer.
The game started with the Patriots leading 10 – 3 or
something like that then I thought man another Patriots win blah blah. However,
guess what? That did not happen! The Kansas City Chiefs ended up shocking the
Patriots to the tune of get this – 42-27. In addition, a star was born.
Kareem hunt 17 carries, 148 yards and 1 TD. - Last month,
the undefeated Chiefs, with their Patriots-destroying, league-changing college
offense, were the only fun thing about the NFL. Alex Smith was an MVP candidate.
Kareem Hunt was the most valuable player in fantasy football.
Now let us fast forward to a great 5-0 start everyone was
saying hey the chiefs are Super Bowl contenders and they are unstoppable. Alex
Smith is throwing the ball downfield! However, I guess it was not all that it
seemed.
After losing the pas 5 out of 6 games, the coaching has
not been good. The quarterback has not been efficient and all that downfield
throwing is nonexistent. The O-Line is atrocious, the D-Line is ineffective and
there no pass rush.
Personally, I think the downward spiral started when they
lost to the Oakland raiders in that Thursday night thriller. You know the 31-30
game. Seems like they could not recover after that. Then the ugly loses started
to some of the worse teams in the NFL. The New York Giants, Jets etc.
Then there is Marcus Peters and his meltdown. As per
Montrose Press –
Peters — who was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct — had
not been ejected. He handed his gloves to a fan on the way in and had to be
retrieved by someone on the Kansas City sideline. The Jets' conversion made it
a seven-point game, but the Chiefs had ample time to tie it and send the game
to overtime.
Peters reemerged (without his socks on) as the Chiefs'
offense took the ball one final time. Alex Smith, who threw for 366 yards and
four touchdowns and added a 70-yard run, moved the ball to the New York 19-yard
line with just under a minute left. However, three straight incomplete passes
ended any chance of overtime, and the Jets took a knee to finish off their
fifth victory of the season.
There’s some good news still after all this, the Chiefs
are still leading the division or tied for 1st with the red-hot LA chargers
and the Oakland Raiders still nipping at their heels so you never know, they
might be able to fix all of this and make a strong playoff run? Naw I doubt but
remember the 2011 New York Giants. The got a wildcard spot and won the entire
thing.
Well there you have it folks until next entry. Peace
Joe Jeremiah
