The NFL Playoff Race 2023/24

Hello again sports fans, Joe here.

Here are my thoughts on the NFL Playoff Race.

In my opinion, there isn’t a clear-cut number 1 seed, dominating team in the NFL this season.

The NFL is one if not the only league in all major sports where any team on Any Given Sunday

that can win. In blowout fashion too. That’s what makes this game the best on earth. Every game

has the chance to be exciting. The salary cap really makes everything on an even playing filed.

As we stand right now the NFL Playoff picture looks like this:

AFC

1. Baltimore Ravens

2.Miami Dolphins

3. Kansas City Chiefs

4. Jacksonville Jaguars

5. Cleveland Browns

6. Pittsburg Steelers

7. Indianapolis Colts

NFC

1. San Francisco 49ers

2. Dallas Cowboys

3. Detroit Lions

4. Atlanta Falcons

5. Dallas Cowboys

6. Minnesota Vikings

7. Green Bay Packers

Here are my thoughts on these ranked teams in the playoffs:

AFC –

1. Baltimore Ravens, here’s a team that has a chance to cause some real damage. They seem

to be very serious contenders this year.

2. The Miami Dolphins, word on the street is they haven’t defeated anyone with a winning

or substantial record.

3. Kansas City Chiefs – They have all the pieces but a serious deep threat that scares

defenders the past previous years.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars – Me, middle of the pack, one and done. I’m sorry to say, they’ll be

ready soon but not yet.

5. Cleveland Browns – Franchise QB injured, talented team but without a QB may not even

be here come January.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers – Good team but needs more consistency at the QB position.

7. Indianapolis Colts – See Cleveland Browns 😊

NFC

1. San Franciso 49ers – I think they can go All. The. Way if Purdy plays excellent, mistake

free football.

2. Dallas Cowboys – You know what, this team has all the tools to go all in, however it

comes down to who they end up playing.

3. Detroit Lions - Just like the Texans, I'm rooting for this team. They've suffered for 50 years, now they finally have a team that's really good.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – In a weird way this team could upset some teams. This is an

Any Given Sunday type team.

5. Philadelphia Eagles – Hmm, I think The Eagles got “exposed” by my 49ers. I think

they’re a good team but I’m not completely convinced. They could go far but it depends

on who they’re playing right?

6. Minnesota Vikings – They started to play well, then they lost Kirk Cousins, now they’re

more than likely a one and done, if they even make the playoffs.

7. Green bay Packers – The Packers are one of those teams that can quietly cause some

damage. In a meticulous way they have a good team, however they’ll go as far Jorda

Love can take them. Sneaky good.

Alright there you have it, my thoughts on the playoffs. I had to update my playoff standing

because of Sunday. LOL This joeis the first year I’ve ever felt like I don’t know who will win it

all. I know everyone’s saying maybe the San Francisco 49ers but who knows. Any Given

Sunday!

QB Injuries and Offensive Linemen

Welcome back!

It's been a while, eh? Given the situation where we left off in 2020. We all had time to reflect.

Anyway, let's get down to business.  My Blog entries will be here and there. I don't have lots of time as I used to but here, we go.

I'm going to talk about the rash of injuries in the NFL 2023/2024 season.

I think with the sudden rise in NFL player individual salaries I think it's impossible to have a dominant offensive line like the Hogs, Great wall of Dallas etc. Hence why so many QB's have season ending injuries. If you must shell out 150 million with 95 guaranteed to certain players across your team, how on earth can you pay for 5 GREAT offensive linemen? Maybe out of those 5 you'll get one and if you're lucky maybe two. I've been watching the 49ers and Eagles very closely and I think they both have the best offensive linemen in the NFL. I've seen open holes that you and I can run through. The controversial play, Tush Push the Eagles deploy both brilliant and irritatingly unstoppable.

If I was a GM and building a team in today’s NFL, I'd start with the Oline, RB, defense then QB. I know, that's easier said than done especially when drafting. I've seen so many misses with can't miss prospects that's it's darn near impossible to find a HOF Lineman, doesn't matter what position. With so much emphasis on a Franchise QB nobody cares about offensive linemen, it’s not a sexy thing to start with. But if you don't start with that, you have so many great, young QBs going down and robbing us of their brilliant play on the field.

Well, there you have it. That's my two cents on Linemen. In the NFL injuries happen a lot and some seasons they do, but this year has been so exciting because I don't think there's one team that's a hey, they're going to win it all.  There are 5 top teams and any given Sunday, anyone can win it all.

Here is a list of starting Quarterbacks who are currently dealing with some sort of injury. I know injuries are part of the deal but to this seems a lot more than other years.

Bills Josh Allen (shoulder), Steelers Kenny Pickett (ribs, knee), Ravens Lamar Jackson (ankle injury), Jaguars Trevor Lawrence (knee injury), Chargers Justin Herbert (broken middle finger on non-throwing hand), Chiefs Patrick Mahomes (hand), Cowboys Dak Prescott (finger injury), Buccaneers Baker Mayfield (shoulder, knee), and 49ers Brock Purdy (concussion), Titans Ryan Tannehill (ankle), Saints Derek Carr (concussion, shoulder), Seahawks Geno Smith (knee).

Best to worst Offensive Lines in the NFL.

I’m out see you on my next entry!

Super Bowl LIV

Well hello!

It's been a minute. This is my first article this year so let's make it a good one.

I'm back! WHAT A YEAR in the NFL! Can you believe the San Francisco 49ers are in the Super Bowl! They were 4-12 last year. What a difference a year makes.
Yes this article will be a bit bias as I've been a San Francisco  49ers fan since 1987 but here we go.

Let's take a look at the match ups.

Super Bowl LIV

The San Francisco 49ers vs The Kansas City Chiefs.

Reports say the Kansas City Chiefs are a slight favorite to win it either by 3 or 7 points.
2020 Super Bowl: San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5, 54.5)
49ers vs. Chiefs: PFF Position Grades for Super Bowl Showdown. Courtesy of 49ers Web zone

PFF is one of the most highly, if not the highest, regarded sources for NFL player grading.

This match up has all the writings of being one of the better Super Bowls from recent years. There's Patrick Mahomes who's one of if not the best QB in the NFL. Jimmy Garoppolo is no slouch either. They say he's a "game manager" however the  San Francisco 49ers offense in situations call for him to be a game manager,  and when it's time to he can sling it with the best of them i.e. The week  14 match up vs The New Orleans Saints.
Look at the score of that game.

In My humble opinion I think Super Bowl LIV will probably end up being a game like vs. The New Orleans Saints because The Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints have a similar types of offence. This will come down to defense and who can run the ball better, which sorry to say points in the San Francisco 49ers favor. If the Chiefs are able to get man to man coverage for Patrick Mahomes then the Kansas City Chiefs will be victorious as they have a better defense this year to hold off certain teams.

My prediction.

I think it'll be a very close game, it might even come down to defense.
Picture
But I'll have to go with my San Francisco 49ERS edging this one out and no I'm not just saying that because they're my team.  I think it'll come down to who has the ball last.

Final score

San Francisco 49ers – 31 – Kansas City Chiefs 24

Well until next time and hopefully the next articles will be sooner than next year.

Peace

Joe Jeremiah

NFL FREE AGENCY 2019

Good morning my friends, it’s been a while, well since that weird Super Bowl. Anyway as the new NFL year approaches I’m going to give you my run down and thoughts on Free Agency.

Let’s being by listing all the free agents this year and their rankings.

1. Demarcus Lawrence, DE/OLB, Cowboys (franchise-tagged at $20.5 million) *

2. Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB, Texans (franchise-tagged at $15.9 million) *

3. Trey Flowers, DE, Patriots

4. Earl Thomas, S, Seahawks *

5. Grady Jarrett, DT, Falcons (franchse-tagged at $15.2 million)

6. Le’Veon Bell, RB, Steelers *

7. Adrian Amos, S, Bears

8. Frank Clark, DE, Seahawks (franchise-tagged at $17.1 million)

9. Dee Ford, OLB, Chiefs (franchise-tagged at $15.4 million)

10. Preston Smith, OLB, Redskins

11. Matt Paradis, C, Broncos

12. Jordan Hicks, ILB, Eagles

13. Pierre Desir, CB, Colts

14. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Rams*

15. Bryce Callahan, CB, Bears

16. Nick Foles, QB, Eagles *

17. Rodger Saffold, G, Rams

18. Jared Cook, TE, Raiders

19. Za’Darius Smith, OLB, Ravens

20. Steven Nelson, CB, Chiefs

The names with the “star” beside them I’ll give you my opinion

Demarcus Lawrence
Ranked number 1 free agent on the list and in the NFL free agency standing. Reports say he’s unhappy with the franchise tag and might pull a Le’Veon Bell and sit out the 2019 year. If he does that it’ll definitely cut into the Cowboys plans for a Super Bowl run. Have to admit he’s been a dominant pass rusher the past 2 years. Once whatever clicked in the light came on, and since dominating pass rushers are worth a pretty penny, expect him to command top dollar and will not give a “hometown discount.”

Prediction – Eventually signs a monster free agent deal with the Dallas Cowboys

Jadeveon Clowney
Ranked number 2. Probably the most controversial ranking on the list. Many people say he’s overrated. I say yes and no. He is a dominant run stopper that’s for sure but in regards to rushing the passer he’s not in the top 10. Many people also say this guy got drafted number 1 over one play in college. I’m so so about this guy. Well this is todays NFL where a guy who’s good, not great can command top dollar especially if he can rush the passer or stop the run. Imagine if this guy was coached by Bill Belichick or Wade Philips?

Prediction – Agrees to the franchise tag with the Houston Texans

Earl Thomas
This one is a tricky one. Where will Earl go? Reports say he wanted to go to the Dallas Cowboys but the Cowboys cannot afford him and he’s not giving a hometown discount. In my opinion The Kansas City chiefs should sign this guy and part with Eric Berry. Yes Eric Berry is good but many believe it’s time to move on. Wouldn’t Earl Thomas fit in great with the Chiefs.

Prediction – The Kansas City Chiefs signs Earl Thomas

LeVeon Bell
Where will LeVeon Bell land. Many teams seem to be interested and I use seem loosely. I’m hearing the New York Jets. I think the Philadelphia Eagles should sign this guy. Wouldn’t he fit in nicely with them and Carson Wentz. I beleive that’s the missing piece for the Eagles. I don’t think they (The Philadelphia Eagles) can afford Bell as he wants top dollar and will not budge on that. I think Bell will reset the RB market but and will get 50 to 60 million guaranteed.

Prediction – New York Jets

Ndamukong Suh
This one I guarantee he’ll go to whoever has the biggest pay cheque. He did the hometown discount thing and went to the Super Bowl. Even though they lost, it seems that he doesn’t care. Show me the money.

Prediction – Whichever team coughs up the dough. Any team in the NFL

Nick Foles

I hope this isn’t Foles gold.. Get it? Reports are saying he’s sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Which I believe will be a great fit. They have a solid run game, a dominant defense if they keep key pieces  and okay receivers. Maybe they might get some through the NFL draft or free agency. I think Nick Foles is an upgrade from Blake Bortles so this will be good signing.. The New York Giants are rumored to be interested but I don’t think so also a few other team but nothing serious.

Prediction – The Jacksonville Jaguars

What a year!!

Well I’m back! It’s been a while but I took some well-deserved time off. What a year in the NFL eh??
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! What’s that you ask? Yes NFL Playoff’s we’ll take a look at that in a minute. But first we’ll take a look at all the coaches who got the axes.

Not going to lie it’s been a weird NFL year, a comeback year for sure we’ll call it. With the ratings and  all the other I’m not going to call it distractions but this year it seems we just concentrated on football.

Now back to the task at hand. From what I just heard these coaches have been fired. Not in any particular order.

Marvin Lewis – Cincinnati Bengals – Fired

Adam Gase – Miami Dolphins – Fired

Todd Bowles – New York Jets – Fired

Vance Joseph – Denver Broncos – Fired

Dirk Koetter – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Fired

Steve Wilks – Arizona Cardinals – fired

Rumors surrounding coaching vacancies

Sources say The Denver Broncos will be pursuing Mike Shanahan and will consider Steelers OLine coach and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak.

The Oakland Raiders fired G.M. Reggie McKenzie during the season and hired Mike Mayock the NFL Network draft guru to replace him.

Didn’t John Harbaugh just sign an extension with the Ravens? So how is he being pursued by all the other teams? Weird.

NFL Playoffs

My Wildcard   predictions

NFC

The Philadelphia Eagles (6)  Vs The Chicago Bears(3)

I think the Nick Foles rib injury might be a hindrance to the Eagles and in a very close defensive game the Chicago Bears will win by 3 points.

The Seattle Seahawks (5) Vs The Dallas cowboys (4)

You know I wasn’t a firm believer in Russell Wilson but I think he’ll just do some spectacular magical type play in a tight game to lift the Seahawks past The Cowboys.

AFC

The Indianapolis Colts (6) vs The Houston Texans (3)

I believe that Andrew Luck is and will not be denied. I think the colts are clicking on all cylinders and will come out on top of The Texans.

The Los Angeles Chargers (5) vs The Baltimore Ravens (4)

Didn’t these guys play already with The Ravens winning? So I’ll stick with that.

 Divisional Round

NFC

The Los Angeles Rams (2) vs The Seattle Seahawks

I have The Rams winning in a very close game maybe by 7. But it will be close for sure. The Rams have the blueprint on how to beat Seattle. Well at least in the Jeff fisher era.

The New Orleans Saints (1) vs the Chicago Bears

Well because it’s in the Saints Dome – I’m predicting the Saints. That’s why home field advantage is very Important.

AFC

The Kansas City chiefs (1) vs The Indianapolis Colts

This will be a close one but I’m going with home field advantage once again and have The Chiefs come out on top.

The New England Patriots(2) vs The Baltimore Ravens (4)

If there’s’ one coach who can take away your weapons it’s Bill Belichick That man is truly a defensive genius and will have an answer for Lamar Jackson.  And the Ravens
I’m taking the New England Patriots

NFC Championship

The Los Angeles Rams vs The New Orleans Saints

I believe it’s the Saints Year - They have a good Defense as well – Winner The New Orleans Saints

AFC Championship

The Kansas City Chiefs vs The New England Patriots

The first time they met New England won. That was before a bunch of mitigating factors
I’m take The Kansas City chiefs. Home filed Advantage once again and NE will have to put up at least 40 points which I don’t think they can do.

The SUPER BOWL

The New Orleans Saints vs The Kansas City Chiefs

I’ll leave that one up to you!

Thank you for reading and for all the love and support. I wish you a GREAT 2019.
See you next year and stay tuned. The NFL Season is never over!!

What is wrong with the NFL?

What is wrong with the NFL?

What is wrong with the NFL? Technically, I do not think anything’s wrong with the league of all leagues. Ratings is up from last year, the anthem drama seems to have died down but something is missing from years past.
I will start with this, I was watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. It was a heck of a game. WOW! This is what made the NFL so damn special in the first place nonstop violent action.

This is what I have noticed.

The Refs.

There is too many flags/ so called penalties. I counted; there was 9 or 10 flags in one game, some called back etc. However, it feels to me like the refs wants the spotlight or something. Yes, I am being petty but every play there seems to be a flag thrown. DeSean Jackson had an 84-yard punt return for a TD and the crowd went bananas. Everyone was excited only to have it called back in regards to a stupid flag, losing all the momentum. For every big play there seems to be a penalty flag. Do they want this turning
into the No Fun League? For Pete’s sake let the players play…

The new roughing the passer rule among other rule changes.

What is this new rule? It is freaking ridiculous! You cannot lay a finger on the QB or risk being penalized.

Check out some of the outrageous rule changes – courtesy of

PROTECTION OF QUARTERBACKS

The Committee reviewed hits on quarterbacks inside and outside the pocket. In some instances, the defender used all or part of his body weight to land on the quarterback immediately after the ball was thrown. These actions put the quarterback at risk for injury. The Officiating Department will emphasize that the defender is responsible for avoiding landing on the quarterback when taking him to the ground.

PROTECTION OF RUNNERS WHO GIVE THEMSELVES UP

If a runner (including a quarterback) gives himself up, then he is down where the first body part touches the ground. The runner should not benefit from additional yardage after the first body part touches. Defenders do not have to go down to initiate contact to stop a runner from gaining more yards after he contacts the ground.

USE OF HELMET

The most significant change for 2018 is the new Use of Helmet rule. The rule states that it is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent. This rule pertains to all players on the field, and to all areas of the field.
Lowering the head (not to include bracing for contact)
Initiating contact with the helmet to any part of an opponent. Contact does not have to be to an opponent’s head or neck area — lowering the head and initiating contact to an opponent’s torso, hips, and lower body, is also a foul.
Making contact on an opponent (both offense and defense)
Players can be ejected for use of helmet fouls — and all ejections will be reviewed by senior officials in Art McNally GameDay Central in New York.

All right, let us cut the BS. The NFL game on the field is not the same as they are making the game soft. Why ruin such a great thing, I knew this was going to happen. Check this. The more popular the NFL got the more eyes were placed on the sport by people who have no idea what they’re watching. All they see is the violence and lose their minds. Well I guess that is the causality of something becoming too popular.
I wonder how the NFL legends back in the 80’s and 90’s would play in today’s NFL. These rules are not only changing the game but it is making it unwatchable sometimes. With the 20 flags per game followed by the 50 commercials. Do not get me wrong I still love this game and watch it every minute I can but these new rules will cause more harm than good. My question is what is going to happen around playoff time when the stakes are higher and some flag is thrown costing a team a chance to move on because a D-Lineman fell on a QB. The Monday Night Football game Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Pittsburgh Steelers was insane! They were calling flags for a defense accidentally falling on a QB!
Anyways I read today that the NFL eyeing a temporary solution for its roughing the passer rule nightmare. So hopefully that is true and we can fix a few things. The NFL did not need to do a complete 180 on the rules change they just needed to tweak a few things for the greater good.

I had to add this tidbit that just came in a few hours ago.... Courtesy of Jason Witten from ESPN

“It’s just gone too far with that rule,” ESPN’s Jason Witten said regarding the NFL’s enhanced emphasis on roughing the passer. “I knew they wanted to make it about the health and safety and protect these quarterbacks. It just seems like we just went a little bit to the left wing

Very interesting comments.

Well that is all for today folks. This was a touchy subject for me. Until next time.

QB or not QB that’s the question.

Peace

I'm Back! NFL Season right around the corner.

Well I am baaaack for another NFL football season. Are you ready for some football??

Feels good to be back, after a weird off-season. Well it has been a quiet off-season to be honest, no bizarre arrests or players getting into big trouble. The only thing that still seems to be  in the news are the anthem protests. I am patiently waiting for the season to start got this day marked in my calendar.

09-06/ 6:20PM – Eagles vs Falcons.

News and notes:

Dez Bryant

Dez Bryant’s is still without a team? Weird.  I think he made a huge mistake not taking that offer from The Baltimore Ravens, 3 years 21 million. The NFL season is what?  19 days away and he is still unsigned. So he’s missed training camp, getting to know the playbook, meeting the team, not to mention  preseason football is almost done. Shaking my head. What if this might be the end of Dez Bryant’s career, some analysts are saying this. Maybe there is something he is asking for that we the fans do not know of. I am actually a Dez Bryant fan, so I hope this is not the end.

Aaron Donald

This is a tricky one. I’ve been watching  The Los Angeles Rams closely and I was wondering do they have a salary cap? How they are able to afford all these top players, sign them to long-term contacts and reset market values? Look at these notable signings.
AUG 20 2018

Rob Havenstein, RT - Signed a 4-year $32.5 million contract extension with Los Angeles (LA)
JUL 24 2018

Todd Gurley, RB - Signed a 4-year $57.5 million contract extension with Los Angeles (LA)
JUL 17 2018

Brandin Cooks, WR - Signed a 5 year $80 million contract extension with Los Angeles (LA)
APR 24 2018

Marcus Peters, CB - Los Angeles (LA) exercised a $9.069 million option for 2019
MAR 26 2018

Ndamukong Suh, DT - Signed a 1-year $14 million contract with Los Angeles (LA)
MAR 8 2018

Aqib Talib, CB - Traded to Los Angeles (LA) from Denver (DEN) for 2018 5th round pick (#160 - traded)

What about Bob? I mean what about Aaron Donald? He’s due for a substantial raise, is not he Look at his stats.

Aaron Donald Achievements –
All-Pro – 2015, AP Defensive rookie of the year 2015, Associated Press NFL Defensive player of the year 2018

Now there is critics out there saying he is demanding QB money and that is unheard of for a 3-4 Defensive Nose Tackle. However, I think he deserves to be paid and top dollar too. They signed NFL Defensive genius Wade Philips as well, imagine what can be. The Rams are a scary team with Donald happy. I read he is asking for something outrageous like 25/30 mill a year. That is only a rumor but if that is the case, he will reset the entire market for  defensive linemen. I think that this holdout/ standoff will last a while with nobody about to blink first. Truthfully, the Rams has all the leverage, Donald is under contact for this year and they can franchise tag him for 2 more years. Yikes! So stay tuned on this one.

Khalil Mack

Apparently, the two sides have not spoken since February 2018. I do not know how this one is going to unfold. I do not even know how much money Mack is asking for. This one is a weird one so I am sourcing the great Adam Schefter

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports there is "no end in sight" to Khalil Mack's holdout.
Mack will be up to $1.628 million in fines after missing Saturday's second preseason game. Those fines will probably eventually be waived, but the sides seem to have made genuinely no progress. It cannot be taken for granted that Mack will be in uniform come Week 1. That would be an unmitigated disaster for the Silver and Black in the first year of Jon Gruden's 10-year, $100 million contract. Aug 16 - 7:33 PM
Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter

Notable signing –

Adrian Peterson signed for the vet minimum with the Washington Redskins. He has not guaranteed anything, salary, roster spot etc. And he has a few weeks to prove his worth before roster cuts, which is September 1st. Hopefully he does good and pads his stats cause I don’t know if he’s a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Well that is all for now folks. The NFL season is just around the corner. Can’t wait!!
Stay tuned for the next article.

Peace.
